Dear Madam, Dear Sir,
Greetings from the western world!
Please can you help me with some basic informations:
I am a musicologist who is studying the musical heritage of your country with growing astonishment and admiration. So I had created radio programs in which I presented some examples of your music (folk tunes, rock/pop, classical) to the listeners here in Germany and Switzerland, and the interest is growing now.
Yesterday I had been invited by an Austrian committee to participate at a congress about central asia – it seems I am the only one they could find to speak about the music of your country.
Now I have a problem. I know of course some of the instruments typical for your country, and I know they are more or less popular all over Kazakhstan.
But in which region have they been created, originally?
Kobyz-family: is it true they come from the northern region (I suppose this from the remark in the Asyl Mura site, they belong to the shaman traditions.)
Dombra: I frequently read that this or that piece belongs to “the tradition of the western part of Kazakhstan”, would it be correct if I say, originally the dombras comes from that part of your country?
So there are many more instruments, of which I even do not know how they sound, or look, I just found their names being quoted in the Asyl Mura site.
sybyzgy,
saz-syrnay, kos syrnay, kamys syrnay, myiyz syrnay
uskirik, sherter, dangyra, shankobyz and shankauyz
daulpaz, shyndaul, dabyl, kepshyk, shyn
dzhetygen:
Do you have short examples for download, do you have pictures of these instruments?
From which region of Kazakhstan do they come from?
Please, if you could help me: I am expected to send in my speech by fifth of October, I am in absolute hurry.
I do apologize for the pressure I make, but I do not find any other way to obtain the information I need.
Let me assure you, the Kazakhs living here in Germany love very much my efforts to make their culture known.
Thanks for you attention.
Shin jürekten sälemmen germaniyadan.

Dear Madam, dear Sir,
for more than a year I am now studying the great music of your country with growing enthusiasm.
Now, friends have told me of your site, and I see there are many cds released - how can I buy them, please ?
Would I have to go through someone in Kazakhstan to get them ?
Please let me know, also of course prices and how to pay. In case you do not sell these CDs outside of your country, I would ask a contact person in Kazakhstan to purchse them for me.
It seems to me that you are starting a project that I should call "absolutely necessary" to preserve your musical heritage.
But I also see the necessity for "extra mural collection / documentation" of original material as it is being a tradition among the people who are living in the steppe still today.
In case you are preparing to do such a field work, please let me know. Anyway, I whish you good progress in this highly valuable project !
Saw bolyngyz

Thank you so much for your foundation. I happened on your website because my mother-in-law brought me a dombra from Kazakhstan as a present from one of my sister-in-laws, my wife being Kazakh from Taraz.

The music on your site is incredible but how can one acquire the cds? Such exotic fare cannot exactly be found on Amazon.com.

Incredibly haunting music.
